Men's Open Doubles Trophy

August 2016 Newsletter

Whilst we've had alot of rain and wind these past few months the courts have held up particularly well with play being able to be resumed after heavy rain within 48 hours. The work done on the courts at the end of last year has certainly been beneficial with better drainage at the courts' northern ends.

Club Championships and Finals

The dates for these are 15th and 16th October and 22nd and 23rd October. The dates have been changed as two of our Men's Badge teams are in the running to play in their finals and Graeme, our Club Captain, has been selected and will be playing in the World  Championships in Croatia, both these events clashed with the original September dates. We will hold men's, ladies and mixed, singles and doubles events. More details to follow but please put these new dates in your diary.

Presentation of all trophies and a BBQ will take place at 4pm on Sunday 23rd October after conclusion of the finals. We hope you can join us even if you aren't playing or receiving a trophy.

Trophy Holders

Could all trophies be returned polished and shiny to the clubhouse by 9th October. Please put your trophy in the corner cupboard of the ladies change room.

Monica Sheehan Trophy

This event is being held on Tuesday 23rd August from 10.30am. All ladies are encouraged to enter, a separate email will follow.

Badge News

Our Thursday Ladies team, playing in division 2, are top of the table. In this division no finals will be played and the winner decided by first past the post. Our Saturday Mens Badge teams are doing equally well. The HHLTC3 team (Div 3.1) are first, HHLTC2 (Div 2.3) are second and HHLTC1, playing in the very competitive 1.2 division, are in 7th place. We wish all teams and players the best of luck for the rest of the season.

AGM

We are bringing  the date of the Annual General Meeting forward to Sunday 6th November. We will hold the Presidents Trophy at 1pm and will follow up with the AGM and light refreshments at 4pm. We encourage all members to come and participate in both events. This is your chance to get involved with the running of the club. Please put the date in your diary.

Meditation

Meditation classes will be commencing at the clubhouse on 5th August and will be an excellent complement to the very calming yoga classes that are also conducted Friday mornings. If members come up to play on Friday mornings the balls and measuring stick will be available in the players shed to avoid disruption to the class.

Are you tired, stressed, over-worked... experiencing physical pain, or emotionally out
of balance? ...or simply wanting to experience more peace in your life? ...If you
answered yes to any of these - Why not try meditation?

Shrim is facilitating Meditation at the clubhouse on Fridays.
Starts: 10am.
Arrive between: 9:50am - 10am.
Duration: 1 hour
Cost: $15
Open to everyone. Feel free to share with all your friends and family.

Support the club

Members may not know that you can make a donation to our club and get a tax deduction. This is done by donating to the Australian Sports Foundation and then indicating the donation is to be forwarded to our tennis club. We will direct all donations toward upgrading the courts and playing surface. Its a good time to do it with tax time coming. You can ask Roger Brittain (9817 0566) if you have any questions.

Graeme Sticka - World Championships in Turkey

We are delighted to share the news that our Club Captain, Graeme Sticka, has been selected as one of the four players in his age group to represent Australia in the World Championships in Turkey  this October. Graeme's team sounds very able - with the world ranked no 1 and 7 for their age group. Well done Graeme! Hunters Hill is so fortunate to have such a capable Club Captain who gives so freely of his time to the club.

Strategic Plan

Many members will be aware that we are now half way through the Strategic Plan 2014-18. Thanks to hard work from the committee many objectives identified in the plan have been achieved. However, we still need to attract more members and we need your help. If each member invites just one friend to play at the club it will help spread the word. Please support our upcoming membership drive and invite down a friend (or two!) to the club.

Thank you for your support,

Sally Stobo, Club President
